REGISTRATION OPENS FOR
ANALOGUE RESILIENCE: A FILM LABS GATHERING

May 25 – 30, 2023 in Toronto, Canada

The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is excited to announce that they will be hosting a gathering of analogue film labs and filmmakers here in Toronto, Canada, taking place May 25 – 30, 2023. Our intention for this gathering is to create spaces and situations for artist-run labs, collectives, and filmmakers to share with and learn from each other through collaboration and conversation.

The gathering is centered around the theme Analogue Resilience. Analogue, to invoke the material qualities of the film medium, as well as an embodied way of working. Resilience, in reference to the continued vitality of this form of filmmaking; and to the community of people whom filmmaking survives through, who continue this practice in contexts and locations in which they encounter resistance.

The film labs gathering will involve a variety of programs, including workshops, discussions and demonstration sessions that registered participants can sign up for during the gathering. Sign up for events will be open until they reach capacity, registration for workshops will take place exclusively on-site at LIFT once the gathering has begun.

Film Labs represent a unique way for filmmakers and artists working with celluloid film to have access to the tools of film production in a collectively organized context. At a time when the industry is gradually getting rid of both film and the means to process and print, these labs act as a breeding ground for filmic experimentation beyond any single genre. https://www.filmlabs.org
