Watch the second episode of Talking Archives 2, our online interview series, produced by A/CA researchers, Monika Kin Gagnon and Elina Lex, featuring conversations with filmmakers, archivists, and researchers who presented at the 2024 Global Audiovisual Archiving Conference in Toronto in July 2024.

This episode features Gillian Moody in conversation with Monika. Gillian is a Wodi Wodi/Dharawal filmmaker, producer, writer, director, industry mentor, advisor, and story developer. In her recent role since 2022 as Senior Manager, First Nations Engagement (previously Indigenous Connections) at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, she is passionate in centring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island items and stories from the NFSA collection in the telling of national stories through engagement and collaboration with communities. Her film Kindred (2023), co-directed with Adrian Russell Wills, premiered at the Sydney Film Festival and was awarded the Melbourne International Film Festival’s inaugural First Nations Film Creative Award in 2023. Gillian has worked in production at SBS Television and as an Investment and Development Manager at Screen Australia’s Indigenous Department across her career. In 2018 Gillian formed Kalori Productions which saw her co-produce Black Divaz (2018) directed by Adrian Russell Wills, Katale – Mudskipper (short drama 2022), and Kindred (short drama 2019)––all award-winning films. Moody’s other work includes producing the documentary series Family Rules (2016) for NITV and directing Naa Muru Gurung (2018), a documentary celebrating the work of Aboriginal teachers for the NSW Teachers Federation.
