This program is curated by Ryerson University’s MA Film + Photography Preservation and Collections Management (F+PPCM) program 2019-2021 film cohort – Laurel Day, Kexin Liu, Ermia Nassabeh, Alexander Simic, Emma Stirling, Yixun Zhang.

On This Land was created as a final project for their Issues in Film Curation and Exhibition course. This program is curated with support from Archive/Counter-Archive and Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre (CFMDC). All the films featured in the program are from CFMDC’s collection. The online exhibition will take place on March 1-8, 2021, with Q&A sessions during March 5-7 (register on Eventbrite for Zoom links).

On This Land is an online film exhibition that hopes to promote the voices and stories of racialized communities in Canada. We invite you to listen to these stories and understand their diversity and importance.

Part One was curated as a double bill co-directed by Indigenous filmmakers telling stories about their experiences of being othered on the land that was taken from them and the challenges that are often associated with migrating to the city.

Part Two features a diverse collection of shorts telling stories of racialized communities, their dreams, beliefs, passions and struggles. The films have different narrative styles and modes of storytelling, each reflecting on the unique experiences of different communities.
